Oct 29, 2009: Every fourth mobile phone user to buy a new phone in 2010
According to a representative survey by industry association BITKOM, around 25 percent of mobile phone users intend to buy a new phone next year. An additional 6 percent are expecting to receive a new phone as a present. In total, 28 million units might be sold, up 4 percent. The growth trend appears to be largely driven by smartphones which facilitate the use of internet-based applications such as email and music downloads. In the first three quarters of 2009, sales of such smartphones have more than doubled year-on-year and amounted to 1.6 million devices.
