Apr 16th, 2009: More electronic products bought online in 2008

While German consumers have always been keen on shopping online for books, clothing, CDs / DVDs or event tickets, the number of electronics products bought via the internet is now rising as well. GfK reports that last year more than 30 percent of coffee machines and kitchenware were purchased online. This also applies to juicers (24 percent), vacuum cleaners (22 percent), tumble dryers (19 percent), razors (16 percent), as well as microwaves and washing machines (15 percent). While the internet has mainly been used as an information source about product features and prices, the conversion rate (i.e. share of online purchases divided by share of collecting information) has climbed from 39 percent in 2007 to 55 percent last year. Selling online is thus becoming a viable alternative for all electronics manufacturers targeting the German market.
