Aug 11, 2009: Sales of fair trade products up 38 percent
Last year, German consumers spent € 266 million on fair trade products. This marks a year-on-year increase of 38 percent. Especially juices registered strong growth (+80 percent), followed by sugar and honey. Fair trade coffee sales rose by a remarkable 13 percent. A recent survey by association Forum Fairer Handel e.V. revealed that even low-income classes buy fair trade products. Of the total population, 44 percent of consumers said they were inclined to buy fair trade items (up 6.7 percent compared to the previous year).
