May 2nd, 2009: Stable consumer electronics sales in 2008
Recent survey results by GfK and industry association gfu indicate that the German consumer electronics (CE) market remained stable in 2008, despite economic struggles in the last quarter of the year. The overall segment increased slightly by 1.7 percent to total sales of € 23.7 billion. More than 60 percent of this turnover stemmed from classic CE products, e.g. flat-screen TV sets, digital cameras, as well as portable media and navigation devices. Laptop sales were up strongly, while telecommunication products dropped 14 percent. Since German consumers are very much focused on electronics, we expect the segment to have remained relatively stable in the first half of 2009 as well.
