June 16th, 2009: Frozen food consumption up last year
According to industry association DTI, consumption of frozen food products (excluding ice cream) reached 39 kilograms per capita in Germany last year. This represents a new record high and a plus of 9,4 kilograms compared to 1998. Total sales amounted to € 11 billion (1998: € 7.54 billion). Especially bakery products and pizzas saw a strong increase: in 2008, consumption amounted to 606,000 tons and 260,000 tons, respectively.
